Quick Updates

I know...I know...it has been a while since we have blogged. We have been super busy, super sick and super tired!!!

Here are the quick updates for now....

Nicholas is finally getting better from his Oct 28th tonsillectomy. He has had a rough time of healing. As soon as his 10 day antibiotic was over he developed a double ear infection. HELLO!!! They said the surgery would reduce his chances for ear infections. The poor thing never even got them before! When the ear infections were diagnosed, they also found that his throat was still swollen and the scabs were still there. So...back on antibiotics and steroids. Over the weekend he has started to smile again. Very sweet and very encouraging. Please pray he remains well. He has had such a rough time.

Steve had a sinus infection. He is on antibiotics and healing.

Stephen David got impetigo. He is also on antibiotics and getting better.

Brandon just started getting impetigo. Started him on antibiotics to fix it.

Megan has a ear infection. The ENT was a bit concerned with the amount of fluid and frequency of ear infection with her. There is a slight chance she could have permanent hearing loss. They will test her hearing in six weeks and we will go from there (another prayer request, please)

And then me...while everyone was sick, I had something too. I just did not have time to get sick or realize that I was so it got worse. I ended up having a sinus infection, double ear infection and finally had one of my ear drums rupture. That HURTS!!!! I am on day 10 and it still hurts plus I cannot hear out of that ear. The doctor said today that the rupture looks better but it is still highly infected (thus the pain and loss of hearing) So... I am on new antibiotics and praying for healing SOON!

That is our update for now. When we are better we will join the land of blogging again!

By the way...the day we came home from the hospital with Nicholas we had a guest waiting for us at the PICU doors. It was sweet JuJu and Amber!! Her scan was clear of any cancer! Huge, Huge, Praise! We are so excited for them. Keep updated at Amber's blog and keep them in your prayers.

Amber said...: Okay you guys win! Are you trying to win a contest for the most diseases in one house?!? Craziness! Please don't play that game anymore this year. Well, maybe your getting the whole year's illnesses over at once and no your almost done. We can hope right?

Carter has an ear infection now, too. Totally crazy because he hasn't had so much as a sniffle in over a month. He's had his adenoids out and 3 sets of tubes. These are the permanent ones, so what's with the infection? Who knows. I feel for you Lisa. That happened to Julia once while we were on vacation. She has never screamed so loud in her life and gunk came pouring out- poor baby.
No fun at all. I hope this drug works for you.

I pray you guys spend this Thanksgiving healing (completely!!), resting, rejuvenating, and smiling. I'll write you a prescription for it if you want :) We're all doctors now anyway right? :)

Seriously, have a happy, happy, healthful Thanksgiving. We all have SO much to be thankful for!!

The Broken Gift

In August of 2008, I felt led to begin writing a book about our journey with Nicholas. The purpose of the book was to be twofold: First, I felt a strong sense to intimately share with others our journey of faith. It was my desire that people who were facing tremendous “life storms” as I call them, to see that God is faithful in all circumstances. Secondly, and much more selfishly, I wanted to present Lisa with the ultimate gift, a book about her son.

I began praying that God would open the doors if that were to be His will. I shared this with only one person, Chris Lewis, and asked him to be in prayer with me. Before I gave God the chance to answer me, I had already begun writing. Five months later, I had written six full chapters. During the process, I would occasionally email Chris a copy for his input. Unfortunately, he was a bit too encouraging, and the process continued.

Chapters six and seven began to slow me down. I was beginning to feel that my writing had become more about me than anything else. Additionally, I was becoming concerned that the book was taking on the form of a journal. I knew from research that journal style books were not welcome in the tough world of book publishing.

Chris had a friend in publishing who agreed to read my manuscript and give me advice. His advice stopped me cold in my tracks. It was just as I had suspected, the manuscript was too much of a journal. Strangely though, I was relieved. I had become increasingly frustrated during my writing sessions and now I could just stop. No more writing.

A short time later, I decided that I would share with Lisa the fruits of my secret, double life as an author. I printed the manuscript off in its entirety and gave it to her to read. I had dreamed of presenting her with a paperback book with a picture of her son on it, but this would have to do.

Fast forward to today. The original intent of the book has not changed. I want people to see Jesus when they see our family. I want people to know there is hope. I want people to understand that God is bigger than our circumstances and brings us through them for a reason.

With that in mind, I decided that Nicholas’ blogsite is a great way to still get my “journal” out there, into the hands of people who may be touched by our story. Each week I will add a new chapter.
